Low cost airlines

  • Low-cost airlines operate from the UK to airports within easy reach of Chezfreddie: for example, Ryanair and Flybe have regular cheap flights to Poitiers and La Rochelle, both about 1 hours drive away. In addition, these low-cost airlines also offer cheap flights from a number of UK airports to Limoges, Bergerac and Bordeaux, all within half a day's drive. LOw-cost airlines regularly open up new routes so it is becoming easier to get cheap flights from different regions of the UK. To get the latests information and check out cheap flights, its worth looking up the various websites for the low-cost airlines to see what's on offer.
The low-cost airlines also offer competitive car hire and the fly/drive option can be quicker and more cost effective than bringing your own car.
We've included links below to some of the leading low cost airline websites:

Channel crossings

  • If you prefer to bring your own car, there are various cross channel ferry options, depending on where you are in the UK. The nearest is Brittany Ferries cross channel ferry service to St Malo, a comfortable half-day's drive. You can also get to us in less than a day's drive via the cross channel ferry routes are to Calais, Dunkerque or Boulogne, where you also have the option of hoverspeed, fast sea catamaran services or Eurotunnel. While it is possible to reach us within a day from these cross channel routes, you may prefer to break the journey on the way down. To help you choose the most convenient cross channel ferry companies, we've detailed below links to many of the leading cross channel ferry companies, cross channel ferry operators and cross channel booking agents.
Alternatively you may prefer to travel by train and take the eurotunnel shuttle.

European Car Breakdown Cover

  • If you are bringing your own car, you need to make sure that your car insurance includes European breakdown cover or if you have separate car breakdown cover that it covers travelling  in Europe.

Driving in France

  • Road safety is now a high priority in France and in addition to the introduction of fixed speed cameras, there are many speed checks and other routine checks by the gendarmes or police on French roads. It therefore pays to be up to date on the essential rules for driving in France and an excellent site for this information is http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-france.htm

Travel Insurance

  • While we make every effort to ensure the safety of our guests and their possessions, we are unable to accept liability for loss or damage to personal items. Travel insurance is therefore essential and you should consider a travel insurance policy that provides cover in the unfortunate event of illness or accident, as your European Health Insurance Card may not provide full cover.
